Sehwag blows away Deccan Chargers

Saturday, May 7, 2011

Virender Sehwag, the name sends quivers down the spine to many bowlers in world cricket. Perhaps the most destructive batsman on the world scene today, he dominates every bowler from the word go. A middle order batsman by choice, Sehwag made the opening position his own and been a nightmare of sorts, to even the most celebrated bowlers on world cricket.  Viru was converted into an opening batsman by former Indian captain, Sourav Ganguly, and been an instant success.
On Thursday night, he took Sangakkara's Deccan Chargers to cleaners almost single-handedly. Batting first, the Deccan ran up a good score of 175 in 20 overs, what with Delhi Daredevils giving runs in mounds and fielders dropping sitters. Morne Morkel their best bowler, alone went for 37 runs in his quota of 4 overs. Sanga looked in control and was poised to banish Delhi with Ishant Sharma & Dale Steyn in his bowling ranks

It was not to be! Virender Sehwag took the bull by its horns and forced the DC bowling machine into abject surrender. Chasing 176 for a victory Delhi lost quick wickets to be 25 for 3. It was a seemingly lost position with a brittle middle order and Deccan bowlers trying to consolidate the gains. Sehwag did not let that get to his head and started raining 4s and 6s in his typically aggressive style. He hit as many as 13 fours and  6 sixers in an innings of 119 that took him just 56 balls. A strike rate of 212.5.

He is now the highest run getter in the tournament and proudly walks away with the Orange cap.

Sehwag, indeed is an amazing talent with a wonderful hand-eye co-ordination and has an uncanny ability to pierce the offside field with unfailing regularity. His cover drives are elegance personified and his rasping cuts are awe-inspiring. It is time, people stopped criticizing him as a hit or miss kinda batsman with no regard to his priceless ability of timing the cricket ball.

Not many have capitulated the cricketing world with such audacious strokeplay or have entertained cricket fans the way he did. Sehwag can only bat in one way, that is to flay all bowlers no matter how respected they may be. He does it with phenomenal authority and mind boggling regularity. He might get out doing so time and again, but when he does it, India is bound to win 10 outta 10 times.

Hail Sehwag, the sensation!
