KP: The man possessed..

Monday, December 6, 2010

The unbeaten double century by Kevin Pietersen would have sure gladdened the hearts of British cricket fans in the ongoing Ashes series. Ponting's bastion is fast eroding and the Aussies are indeed going downhill.

The English victory in the second test match does make it loud  & clear that the Aussies are no longer invincibles and that the world cricket cannot be dominated by one single side for a prolonged length of time.Gone are the days, where Australia ruled roost and the result of any match, they participated in, was a foregone conclusion. The gulf in the standards in world cricket is all but bridged and Australia is nothing but spent force. It augurs well for the game as the quality of cricket is bound to go up with the element of monotony being killed, though no one can grudge the aussies' aggressive brand of cricket and their will to win matches on a consistent basis.

It all started with India's VVS Laxman, who played an epic innings at Eden gardens and shattered Steve Waugh's dream of conquering the final frontier. India, since emerged as a strong side on the test arena, with the Proteas and English following suit. It definitely is a welcome change and brings in a refreshing element of competition and an air of unpredictability and intrigue, which characterize test cricket.

Kevin Pietersen, dominated the hapless aussies with a flurry of audacious strokes that would have sure left them demoralized.  He shuffles in anticipation and employs the switch shot to devastating effect. Johnson & co for once, wondered what to line to bowl to as the runs kept leaking.  With KP in such a devastating form, this series might go England's way.

It is tough times for ponting as his team members are failing to rise to the occasion  Should they lose this series,  Ricky Ponting will sure have to go and we might in all probability see a new Test Captain for Australia. The pommies are doing a great job at the moment and seem to be infallible .England are clear favorites to regain the coveted Ashes trophy and Kevin Pietersen, in such a sublime form, does not harm their chances at all.
